I read an interesting article in Dance Studio Life called “Making the Grade” which discussed objective assessments in the subjective world of dance. It was reassuring to discover that the challenges I face with my classes are shared by  teachers at the collegiate level.  It was interesting to hear how different professionals handled the task of assessing movement art.  Some take into account effort, attendance and artistry in addition to technique.  Dance is and always will be subjective and I am constantly struggling to find the balance in grading between these elements.  It is nice to know I am not alone.
