Change Through Furniture, and such

As I walked through the classrooms that now have new furniture, I reflected back on all the visits we have done over the past year and a half as we figured out the direction we needed to take not only with the design of the new Innovation Center, but how we want to use our teaching and learning space.  It was only last fall that we all began to reconsider what our spaces might look like, and we are taking the first steps in actually creating those spaces.

We are a place that doesn’t just talk about innovation and envisioning a better way to teach and learn, we have the courage and vision to actually make that happen, and yes, that does make us unique.

Getting new balcony furniture and tables and chairs in the inner court and picnic tables is a means to an end.  Yes it creates a “home-like” environment for our students, and greater comfort, but what has always stood out to me about those place and how the furniture is used is how engaged students are in those places.  We are now creating an environment that allows us to take our vision, our dream of what education can be, and move forward.

I just read Andrews blog about the Digital Imaging Studio.  Yes, we need production tools like that and as we create our Maker Space, there are so many possibilities in front of us.  We still have to prioritize and budget, but we are committed to providing as much opportunity as we can, and if we look at where we are now, we have accomplished so much in terms of curriculum and space use….but there is no rest for the weary.  The difference for me is that all this is energizing and fun.  I hope it is for you to.  Now, for that next project…:)
